Button Wins - Vettel Champion
Jenson Button took the win today at Suzuka from 2nd place on the grid after world champion-elect Vettel pushed him onto the grass at the start of the race. Smart pitstops and a fabulous pace brought Button to the front (and Alonso passed Vettel in the same way) yet nothing could detract from Sebastian Vettel's second consecutive world championship.
Vettel wins on F1 return
The summer break didn't change Red Bull's dominance of the 2011 F1 season, with a 1-2 for the Vettel/Webber duo.
Driver of the day? Jenson Button - or Michael Schumacher... we can't decide! From 13th on the grid, Jenson made the podium with 3rd place despite losing part of his front wing in the first corner. In the case of 20th Anniversary celebrant Michael Schumacher - last place on the grid following a failure in qualifying ended up being 5th overall - ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg whom he past in the closing stages on track.
Jenson wins in Hungary
Jenson Button claimed a thriller of a win in Hungary - his 200th GP start. With the track starting off 'damp' Button was headed at the start by pole-sitter Sebastian Vettel and Button's team mate Lewis Hamilton.
With the conditions changable Vettel made a mistake that let Hamilton through into the lead with Button in hot pursuit.
Tyre strategy was as mixed at the weather... As the rain briefly returned Hamilton pitted - after a thrilling dice with Button - whilst JB stayed on track. Intermediate tyres proved to be the wrong call and Jenson was able to stretch his lead over the field. Hamilton meanwhile was penalised for forcing Paul Di Resta off track when the McLaren returned to the track after a spin.
Vettel was fortunate towards the end and was able to take second against the hard charging Ferrari of Fernando Alonso.
Thank you Pirelli!
WOW! What a race in SHanghai.
The headline - Hamilton wins from Vettel, with 3rd to Webber who recovered from a disasterous qualifying.
The real story? Pirelli supplied tyres that meant the entire race was a thriller! Overtaking was happening throughout the race, throughout the field - and not just in the DRS zone.
If you haven't seen the race find it online (BBC Red Button etc) - this has to have been better even than Canada last season!
Vettel wins in Malaysia
Sebastian Vettel took a lights to flag victory in the Malaysian Grand Prix, followed home by the McLaren of Jenson Button.
Button's team mate Lewis Hamilton, together with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari were penalised post-race following an incident where Alonso lost part of his front wing in an incident in the closing stages of the race. 3rd step on the podium went to Renault's Nick Heidfeld who fended off the attention of Mark Webber for the last few laps.
Despite a number of incidents, including an off-track moment, Michael Schumacher scored MercedesGP's first points of the year in 9th, whilst Paul di Resta continued his rookie season with another 10th place finish.
